Good Shepherd School

Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church’s relationship with the Good Shepherd School in Pele, Port au Prince, Haiti, goes back many years through the friendship of church members Anne and Tom Eyerly with the Rev. Charlie Scott and his wife Mary, who along with Haitian Pastor Tito Caneus, began the school in 1982. After Pastor Tito’s death, his son Chedrick continued his father’s ministry. At the time of the 2010 earthquake, the school had an enrollment of about 1,600 children. Moved by the devastation from the earthquake, the members of Grace Covenant began raising money to help rebuild the school. We began with our annual basketball game, Hoops for Haiti, which has raised several thousand dollars since the first game in 2010. A group of 12 Grace Covenant members visited Haiti in 2012 and all came back with the vision of providing an improved water supply for the school, where there is no running water. It has taken several years and some trial and error, but the children now have water fountains and the school cooks can easily get water for cooking and dishwashing!
